Common Questions

Flatbed FAQ

Nichols operates 48 and 53 foot flatbed trailers, with step-deck or drop-deck equipment available on request for taller loads. The right trailer depends on your cargo dimensions, weight, and routing. Tell our dispatch team what you are shipping and we will match the correct flatbed configuration, including any permits required for oversized or overheight freight.

Yes. Every flatbed load is tarped and secured to standard with appropriate straps, chains, edge protection, and tarps for the cargo type. Proper securement is the core of safe open-deck hauling, so it is part of our service on every shipment, not an extra you have to ask for. Our drivers are experienced in securing steel, lumber, machinery, and oversized freight.

Nichols hauls flatbed freight across all of New England and into the Mid-Atlantic, covering Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. Based on the I-495, Route 24, and Route 44 corridor in Middleboro, Massachusetts, we are well positioned for regional open-deck lanes throughout the Northeast.

We haul building materials, structural and sheet steel, lumber and wood products, construction and industrial machinery, equipment, and oversized or irregularly shaped loads that cannot fit inside a van.
